Why Chris Evans Extended His Marvel Contract For Avengers 4???

The business of Marvel contracts has always been a subject that’s fascinated the most diehard MCU fans. Still, the mysterious nature of Marvel Studios has meant that it takes a fair amount of guesswork to figure out how many films are left for each actor. A few, however, have laid out how many films they’re contracted to be in, leading to plenty of fan theories and speculation. Chris Evans, for example, has long been for six films. Along with the Captain America trilogy, that would allow Evans to show up in Avengers: Infinity War after doing so in the previous two films.

While his little cameo in Spider-Man: Homecoming may be more a favor than a part of his contract, fans have wondered for some time whether Evans would end up appearing in Avengers 4 and wrap up Phase 3 of the MCU. Luckily, we’ve known for some time that the actor would be reprising his role. There’s also been rumors that Evans may be eager to stick around into Phase 4. Of course, there’s also been word that the fourth Avengers film could see the death of the current Captain America and the passing of his shield to Bucky Barnes or Sam Wilson. In the meantime, Evans is excited to stick around for the near future and give his character a proper arc.

Telegraph spoke with Evans about his future in the MCU, and the actor opened up about why he decided to extend his contract beyond Infinity War to Avengers 4.

“I had six films in my Marvel contract, so I could have said after the third Avengers I was done, but they wanted to make the third and fourth Avengers films as a two-parter. They said they had so many other characters to fit in – Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Ant Man – and couldn’t get them all into one movie.”

Originally, the plan was for the next two Avengers films to shoot simultaneously and tell one cohesive story. Since that time, the fourth film’s title went from Avengers: Infinity War, Part 2 to the placeholder Avengers 4. That move also came with word that the two stories would no longer be the same and each film would be its own. While many are wondering how anything could follow a movie about Thanos trying to destroy all of reality, others think this is all a ruse and both films will connect. If it’s the latter, that means Evans might have been sold a bill of goods, but if it’s the former then he likely knows that and is still onboard for his original reasons.

Regardless, Evans seems happy enough with the direction of the films and where his character will go. He went on to say that the core reason he decided to extend his contract is “because it made sense. It’s going to wrap everything up.” While he could be referring to the MCU as a whole, he likely means his character’s arc. Steve Rogers has been given one of the most complete and coherent arcs so far in the MCU, so it makes sense that he’d want to finish telling that story. And with the writers and directors from his two previous Captain America films tackling Infinity War and Avengers 4, it makes sense that Evans’ character would be done justice.
